Wanda’s Personal Safe Horse Buying Guarantee

Wanda & Naomi with Sassy

Used car sales men often have a bad reputation and one wonders if they had the bad luck to inherit that reputation from the olden days, from the horse sales men in the not so distant past. While most used car sales men I know are actually pretty honorable, there are still plenty of people out there who try to take advantage of the well intending horse buyer.

That said there are few purchases you’ll make in your life that will be as difficult as buying a horse. I am technically not savvy but even I find it sometimes easier to select that new truck for the ranch than selecting the next horse I am going to buy.

To make your horse buying experience at Vaquera Ranch as safe for you as possible, I  came up with my personal safe horse buying guarantee. It’s plain, simple and straight forward. There is no small print and it’s based on common sense and trust.

And here is how it works:

1. We don’t need to stage

You can come to visit us at the ranch at anytime. I still prefer you’ll call ahead though because chances are I might be driving the kids somewhere.

2. All our horses are healthy

They are regularly health checked by our vet at Bastrop Veterinary Hospital, they are dewormed, they are up to date on their coggins. Any injuries or other health issues are professionally attended to immediately. There is no need to mention, that our horses receive the best quality feed and nutrition out there.

3. We won’t talk you into anything

I will never try to talk you into a particular horse. In fact I will rather discourage you from buying a horse that you like, if I feel it is not right for you.

4. No BS

We will never exaggerate the skill level of a particular horse. A horse that has had a few reining lessons is not a “started reining horse”. A horse with two hours under saddle is not “broke”. And a horse isn’t kids safe just because it hasn’t killed one of my kids so far. I will always try to give you a fair and honest picture of the true abilities of any horse that you are looking at.

5. We are upfront about potential problems

We will tell you openly about any known issues of a particular horse. A good example would be negative behavior patterns or known health issues (even if treated).

6. Character counts

For us the good character of a horse is at least as important as his blood lines. As a mother of seven I know how important a child’s character development is. There is a striking similarity to building up the character of a horse. Therefore when it comes to training we are totally not “Old School”. As much respect as I have for the old cowboy out there – I will never try to break the spirit of a horse.  Violence, agression, anger – they have no place in the round pen. And it shows: Most of our horses are incredibly gentle, well mannered and without fear of the rider. The ones that aren’t (yet) have probably been messed up by their previous owners, or are brand new to the ranch. Don’t confuse natural horsemanship with softness or weakness though. My horses (and my kids) have no doubt in their mind who their boss is and they know whom they owe respect.

7. Money back guarantee on certain horses

On our more prestigious horses we offer a full 14 days money back guarantee. Should you find that the horse you bought does not work for you, we offer a full refund when you return the horse within 14 days. This of course applies under the assumption that you return him in the same condition that you bought him. Transport is on you and we also reserve the right to do a vet check that will be deducted from your refund. We cannot take back horses for a refund that have been injured, or have other health issues that occured while the horse was under your watch. Again this refund policy does only apply if explicitlly stated in the bill of sale.

I hope that my guarantee will put your mind at rest and will take away some of the worries that naturally occur when buying a horse. And because trust and fairness is a two way street, I encourage you to voice your concerns upfront. Here at Vaquera Ranch we will always try our best to make you 100% satisfied. We want you to enjoy your horse for many years to come.
